Overview
Wizz Air, the Hungarian ultra-low-cost carrier, has announced a major expansion in Montenegro. In October 2025, the company announced that it will open its 36th base in Podgorica and deploy two new Airbus A321neo aircraft in the capital. Modern airplanes enable longer flights with lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions. The new base will launch 14 new routes starting March 29, 2026, providing more than one million new seats per year. The investment will create 80 direct jobs and support 700 indirect ones. Since 2016, Wizz Air has transported almost two million passengers in Montenegro with 99.8% of flights realized in 2025.
In addition to the new base, Wizz Air is also introducing the Catania-Podgorica line from May 5, 2026, three times a week. Another connection, Podgorica-Bratislava, will start on May 21, 2026 and will be operated on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. These connections are part of the company's strategy to strengthen direct flights between Montenegro and important European cities.

Tips for travelers
• Book tickets in time for flights in March. The first routes to Malmö, Paris, Hamburg and Maastricht start between March 29 and 31, 2026. Early spring flights allow you to visit Montenegro before the peak of the season and at cheaper prices.
• Explore the cultural mix in Podgorica. The city combines Ottoman architecture in the Old Town with modern landmarks such as the Millennium Bridge and offers easy access to Lake Skadar.
• Combine multiple destinations. With new routes to Bratislava and Catania, passengers can plan tours in Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. Bratislava is ideal as a base for visiting Vienna and Budapest, while Catania opens the door to Sicilian beaches and historical sites.
